Krill Oil vs Fish Oil

Why krill oil is the better omega-3 for dogs and cats.

1

Better absorption

Omega-3s in krill oil are phospholipid-bound, not triglyceride-bound like fish oil. Your dog or cat absorbs phospholipid-bound omega-3s more efficiently, so more of each capsule actually gets used by the body.

2

Built-in antioxidant protection

Krill oil naturally contains astaxanthin, an antioxidant that fish oil simply doesn't have. It's up to 300x stronger than vitamin A and 47x stronger than lutein, and outperforms vitamin C, CoQ10, and beta-carotene. For your pet, that means stronger cell protection and support for joint, skin, and immune health.

3

Up to 48x more biologically active

Krill oil is up to 48x more biologically active than fish oil, meaning your pet's body can put it to work more effectively. A smaller dose goes further for joint comfort, brain health, and heart function in dogs and cats.

4

No fishy burps or lingering aftertaste

One of the most common complaints with fish oil is the lingering smell, oily residue on food, and fishy burps. Krill oil doesn't have these issues. It's naturally resistant to oxidation, stays fresh longer, and is gentler on your pet's stomach.

Who is Mega Krill Oil for?

1

Dogs and cats with joint issues

Whether it's arthritis, hip dysplasia, or recovery after surgery, phospholipid-bound omega-3s help ease inflammation and support mobility.

2

Pets with dry, itchy, or sensitive skin

Krill oil's marine lipids and astaxanthin help strengthen the skin barrier and support a healthier coat. A good option for dogs and cats prone to skin allergies or hot spots.

3

Senior dogs and cats

Older pets often deal with stiff joints, slower cognition, and changing cardiovascular health. The omega-3s, choline, and astaxanthin in krill oil support all three.

4

Large and active breeds

Bigger dogs carry more load on their joints. Daily krill oil helps maintain joint health before problems start, not just after.

Frequently asked questions

What is krill oil, and how is it different from fish oil?

Krill oil is an omega-3 supplement extracted from Antarctic krill, small crustaceans found in cold southern waters. The main difference is how the omega-3s are structured. In krill oil, EPA and DHA are bound to phospholipids, which makes them easier for dogs and cats to absorb compared to the triglycerides in fish oil. Krill oil also naturally contains astaxanthin, an antioxidant that protects the oil from oxidation and supports your pet's cell health.

What are the main benefits of krill oil for dogs and cats?

Krill oil supports joint comfort, heart and cardiovascular health, skin and coat condition, brain function, and immune health. The omega-3s help ease inflammation, which is especially useful for senior pets, dogs and cats with stiff joints, or those with dry and itchy skin.

Can I give krill oil to both dogs and cats?

Yes. Mega Krill is formulated for both dogs and cats. You can give the softgel whole (for dogs) or open it and mix the oil into their food (for cats).

How long does it take to see results?

It depends on what you're looking for. Coat improvements like softer fur and less flaking can show up within a few weeks. Joint comfort and mobility changes typically take around four to eight weeks of daily use.

Are there any safety concerns or side effects?

Krill oil is safe for most dogs and cats. It is not suitable for pets with shellfish allergies. If your pet has a bleeding or clotting disorder, is on anticoagulant medication, has a history of pancreatitis, or is scheduled for surgery within the next two weeks, consult your vet before starting krill oil. Pets with thyroid conditions should also check with their vet first.

How is your krill oil sourced?

Our krill is sustainably harvested from Antarctic waters. The oil is manufactured under HACCP and GMP standards, and is tested for heavy metals and purity. Every package carries a unique batch number for quality control and accountability.

Can I use krill oil and fish oil together?

You can, but most pet owners find it unnecessary. Krill oil already provides highly absorbable omega-3s, astaxanthin, and choline, so it covers what fish oil does and more. Most people switch to krill oil entirely rather than using both.
